Stop Rewinding Nylon Line Every Ten Minutes

Nylon line is fine on a lawn edge. Put it into brambles, woody stems or anything against a wall and it shreds — so you stop, unclip the spool, feed out more line, and by the time the tank's empty you've done it six times.

This head runs hardened 65Mn steel chain instead. It carries straight through the tough stuff that snaps line, and when the chain finally wears you swap it in a couple of minutes rather than respooling.

Why Chain Over Line

  • It doesn't shred on hard edges. Kerbs, walls, fence posts and tree bases are what eat nylon. Steel shrugs them off.
  • It cuts woody growth. Bramble, nettle stems, dead bracken and thick tussock grass that line just bends over.
  • No respooling. No feed mechanism, no tangled spool, no bump-feed that won't feed. Fewer parts to go wrong.
  • Quick swaps. Chain is a consumable, and replacing it is a straightforward job with basic tools.

Fitting

M10 × 1.25 left-hand thread with a 25.4 mm (1 inch) mounting hole — the common fitment on most petrol strimmers and brush cutters. Check your machine's shaft thread before ordering.

Safety — Please Read

A steel cutting head throws debris considerably harder than nylon line. Wear eye protection, face protection, gloves, long trousers and sturdy boots every time, keep people and pets well clear of the working area, and make sure your machine's guard is fitted and undamaged. Confirm your trimmer is rated for a metal cutting attachment before fitting — not all light electric models are.

Common Questions

Will it fit my strimmer?
If your machine takes an M10 × 1.25 left-hand thread with a 25.4 mm mounting hole, yes. That covers most petrol strimmers and brush cutters. Check before ordering.

Can I use it on a cordless electric trimmer?
Only if the manufacturer states it accepts metal attachments. Many light electric units are line-only, and fitting steel to them is unsafe.

How long does a chain last?
It depends entirely on what you cut and how much stone you catch. Treat it as a consumable — the set option exists for that reason.

Is it good for a normal lawn edge?
It's overkill. This is for rough ground, brambles and neglected areas. Line is neater on tidy edges and safer near ornamentals.

What's in each option?
Chain Only is a chain set. Trimmer Head is the head with chain fitted. Trimmer Set is the head with chain fitted plus a spare chain.
