Nylon Line Was Never Going To Clean A Driveway

Line strimmers are built for grass. Put one against the moss and weed packed into block paving joints and you'll go through a whole spool doing half the drive, feeding line every thirty seconds and finishing with the same green stripes you started with.

This swaps the line for twisted carbon steel wire. It doesn't wear away against masonry, so the job gets finished with one head instead of a bag of consumables.

Why It Holds Up

• Twist-knot carbon steel wire. The wires are twisted into bundles rather than left loose, which is what stops them splaying and breaking off. Same construction as an industrial descaling brush.
• Internal holding plate. A steel plate clamps the wire bundles from inside the hub. It's the part that keeps wires from being flung out at speed, and it's why this design is the safe one.
• It doesn't wear out on stone. The reason a line head fails on paving is abrasion. Steel wire against concrete loses very little, so one head lasts seasons rather than an afternoon.
• 1-inch centre bore. Fits most two-stroke, four-stroke and backpack brush cutters. The adaptor kit covers the shafts that need bushings.
• Two diameters. 6-inch for control in tight joints and along edges. 8-inch for covering ground quickly on a long drive or a large yard.

Safety

• Full face protection, not just goggles. Wire brushes shed wires at speed and a broken wire travels a long way.
• Long sleeves, trousers and boots. Keep bystanders and pets well back — considerably further than you would for a line head.
• Only fit this to a brush cutter rated for metal blades, with the guard fitted. Do not put it on a lightweight electric line trimmer.
• Check the wires before every use and retire the head once bundles start breaking off.
• It will mark soft brick, render, timber and car paintwork. Work away from anything you care about.

Common Questions

Will it fit my strimmer?
If your machine takes a metal blade and has a 1-inch mounting, yes. Light electric line trimmers usually don't have the mounting or the power, and shouldn't be used with a wire head at all. The adaptor kit covers most of the in-between cases.

Does it damage paving?
It will scuff soft brick, old render and anything painted or timber. On concrete, standard block paving and stone it's fine. Test in a corner before you commit to a whole drive.

Do wires come loose?
Some will, over the life of the head — that's normal for a wire brush and why full face protection is not optional. The twist-knot design and internal plate slow it down, they don't eliminate it.

Can I use it on grass?
You can, but it's the wrong tool. It'll tear the sward and throw soil. Keep the line head for lawns and use this on hard surfaces.

6-inch or 8-inch?
6-inch if you're mostly doing joints, edges and awkward corners — it's easier to control and lighter on the machine. 8-inch if you have a lot of open hard standing and want it done faster.
