Get Under The Root, Not Just Over The Top

Most weeding tools work at the surface. They take the leaves off, the plant looks gone for a fortnight, and then it's back — because the root never moved. Meanwhile the soil around your vegetables stays compacted and nothing drains properly.

ZencaHoe has an open, hollow blade that goes into the ground. Drive it down, lever back, and it lifts the root out while breaking up the soil around it. Weeding and cultivating in the same motion.

Why The Hollow Design Works

  • It penetrates instead of skimming. The open head cuts down past the crown to where the root actually is.
  • Soil passes through the blade. No wedge of earth building up in front of you, so the tool keeps biting instead of riding up.
  • It loosens as it clears. The same pull that lifts a weed aerates the soil around it — useful before sowing or planting out.
  • Nothing sprayed. Physical removal, so it's safe around vegetables, fruit, pets and children.

Hand-Forged Manganese Steel

The head is forged and welded from high-quality manganese steel, then hardened by traditional quenching. That's what lets it lever against a stubborn taproot without the blade folding or the neck bending.

It's supplied with a raw, unpolished finish — no anti-rust cosmetic coating. It looks rough out of the box. That's the finish, not a defect, and it has no effect on how it cuts.

Choose Your Option

Handheld (Thin Handle) — narrower socket for a slim shaft. Best for close work in borders, raised beds and between established plants.

Plunger (Wide Handle) — wider socket for a thicker shaft, so you can put real force behind it. Best for heavier soil and bigger roots.

Bundle — both heads together at the lowest combined price. Fit them to different handle lengths and switch depending on the job.

Where It Works

  • Vegetable beds and allotments
  • Flower borders and around shrubs
  • Breaking new ground before planting
  • Loosening compacted or crusted soil
  • Digging planting trenches and drills

Safety

The blade is genuinely sharp. Wear protective gloves whenever you fit, use or clean it, store it out of reach of children, and make sure the head is firmly seated on the handle before putting your weight behind it. This is a tool, not a toy.

Common Questions

Is a handle included?
No. The head is supplied to fit a standard shaft, so you can choose the length that suits your height and whether you're working standing or kneeling.

Which option should I get?
Handheld for close, controlled work in beds and borders. Plunger for heavy soil and tough roots where you want more leverage. The bundle if you do both.

Why does it look rusty or rough?
It's left unpolished on purpose. There's no cosmetic anti-rust treatment, so the surface stays raw. Cutting performance is unaffected.

Will it stop weeds coming back?
It lifts roots rather than shearing tops, which is what stops annual weeds regrowing. Deep perennial roots like bindweed may still need repeat passes.

How do I keep it from rusting?
Knock the soil off, dry it, and wipe the head with any light oil before it goes back in the shed.
