That's the whole problem with weeding a driveway. Whatever you take off at surface level, the root is still sitting in the joint with a season's worth of energy behind it. So you do the drive in April, and by early May the same green line is running down the same joint.

• Pull towards yourself with your feet clear — if the hook releases suddenly it comes back fast.
• Wear gloves and closed shoes. Grit and stone fragments come out of the joint with the weed.
• Check the wing nuts are tight before each session. A head that comes off a moving handle is the main risk here.

Common Questions

Does a handle come with it?
Only with the bundle options, which include a telescopic rod. The hook-only options are the head alone, designed to fit a handle you already own — check yours is around 3 cm in diameter before ordering.

Does it really get the root out?
In a paving joint, usually yes, because there's very little soil holding it. In an open bed or deep gravel it will often break the root rather than lift it. It's a joint and crevice tool, not a general weeder.

Will it damage my paving?
It can scratch soft or coated surfaces and it will pull out loose jointing sand — which you'll want to top up afterwards. On resin-bound or polymeric sand joints, test in a corner first.

How much faster is it than hand weeding?
Considerably, and more to the point you're upright. It is still slower than a strimmer or a pressure washer on the first pass. The payoff is that the weeds stay gone much longer.

Curved or straight?
Curved for long continuous joints where you're pulling along the line. Straight for scraping, corners, and cracks too narrow for the curve to enter.
